Back to Strong.

12 weeks of one-to-one training for life after surgery, injury or physio, or when a long-term condition shapes how you train.

Determination can only get you so far...

You've been discharged, but "discharged" isn't the same as "back to strong". I bridge the gap between being signed off and getting back to the life you had/can have.

Is this you?

  • You've had surgery and want to train safely

  • You've had physio sessions but still don't feel right, and you're wondering what comes next

  • You've had recurring injuries

  • You have constant aches and pains and aren't sure of the best way to train

  • You've lost confidence in your body

  • You live with a long-term condition. I've worked with clients with MS, ME, spinal issues and others.

Who you'll be working with

I'm a Level 3 Personal Trainer, Exercise Referral Specialist and a Movement & Performance Optimisation Therapy Specialist.

I can also call on skills from being a Yoga Teacher and a Sports massage therapist.

I work with post-surgical and post-physio clients regularly, and where useful I'll line your training up with what your physio advised.

How is this different from Personal Training?

It's the same one-to-one service: a free discovery call, a movement assessment, coached sessions and message support. It can be done live online, at your home in the Northallerton / Catterick area, or at Active Life Leisure Club.

The difference is the thought that goes into your programme. If your history, your movement patterns need careful planning, if what you need is rehab-based - that's what Back to Strong is for.

If it doesn't, Personal Training is the better fit.

Rehab Is Training

Rehab is training. Not a sheet of exercises, but coached, progressed and built around you.

How It Works

1. Free discovery call. We talk through where you are now, including any injuries, surgery, conditions or physio history, and what you want to achieve. No pressure, no obligation. If this isn't the right fit, I'll say so and point you at what is.

2. Movement assessment. Your first session starts with finding out how you move: strengths, restrictions, imbalances. Everything that follows is built on this, not on a template.

3. Coached sessions, built around you. Progressive strength, joint stability, mobility and sustainable workload, coached rep by rep. If something isn't working for your body that day, I adapt it on the spot.

4. Progress reviews. We review where you started, where you are, and what's next, so you can see the change, not just feel the effort.

* This means you don't have to live close-by in order to work with me!

"Adapting Fitness (and Chris) is just that - adapting. I have MS and quite disabled by it, but Chris always comes up with ingenious ways to work my recalcitrant body! I have worked with him weekly for around 6 months now. I am showing some small improvements in strength, which is helping with my daily living. I am never going to be running marathons or deadlifting large weights, but keeping active is hugely important to me. And Chris very much helps with that" JB

"I have had 12 weekly gym based personal training sessions with Chris to increase my strength, balance and flexibility following joint replacement. Chris focuses on correct technique and demonstrates a range of exercises using resistance equipment where appropriate. He takes a whole body approach, then moves to target specific muscle groups where weakness is identified. I saw improvements within a few weeks in all the aspects I was looking for. Chris is knowledgeable, calm and pleasant to work with and instills confidence. It has been an enjoyable personalised regime and I highly recommend him." JC

Frequently asked questions

Very likely yes — this is one of my specialisms. I work with post-surgical and post-physio clients regularly, and where useful I'll align your training with what your physio advised. Tell me about it on the call. However depending how major the surgery was your consultant or physio will have given you a guide e.g In the first 4 weeks you can only do this, in the next 4 weeks you can add in this and this.... Feel free to speak to your consultant/physio for their medical opinion.

Often, yes. I've worked with clients with MS, ME, spinal issues and more, adapting every session to what your body allows that day. We talk it through on the free discovery call, and if I'm not the right fit I'll tell you.

No — training starts with a block of 12.

One session won't change your body; twelve weeks of consistent, coached training can. If you're unsure about committing, that's exactly what the free discovery call is for.

I don't work with anyone without a consultation first.

This is typically 1-1.5 hours long. I don't charge for this so one session means you've had up to 2.5 hours of my time for the consultation and the session PLUS I need to develop a suitable programme for you - so nearer 4 hours of my time for only the price of one hour. That makes no business sense.

The service is almost exactly the same: they both include a free discovery call, consultation a movement assessment, one-to-one coached sessions and message support.

Back to Strong is for people whose surgery, injuries or conditions need more careful planning, so there's more thought and expertise behind your programme. Think of PT as 'training' and Back to Strong as 'Rehab is training'.
