This is proper one-to-one training: every session is live, coached in real time, and built around your body on the day — not a programme sent to your inbox. Whether we train at your home, at Active Life Leisure Club, or online over video, it's the same service. The venue is just a detail.

I come to you — anywhere within roughly 30 miles of Northallerton, covering Catterick, Richmond, Bedale, Leyburn and the surrounding area.
You need less space than you think: room for a yoga mat is enough for an effective session. I bring the equipment and the plan — you just need to be there.
A full gym environment at Active Life (Scotch Corner), with access to the complete range of equipment.
Ideal if you want to build gym confidence — many clients start here nervous about gyms and end up training happily on their own between sessions.
The same live session, coached over Zoom. Full attention, real-time correction, programme adapted on the fly — just through a screen. Available anywhere in the UK.
This is not the same as Online Coaching: here you get a full session of my time, every time.
1. Free discovery call We talk through where you are now — including any injuries, surgery, conditions or physio history — and what you want to achieve. No pressure, no obligation. If 1:1 isn't the right fit, I'll say so and point you at what is.
2. Movement assessment Your first session starts with finding out how you move — strengths, restrictions, imbalances. Everything that follows is built on this, not on a template.
3. Coached sessions, built around you Progressive strength, joint stability, mobility and sustainable workload — coached rep by rep. If something isn't working for your body that day, I adapt it on the spot. That's the whole point of having me in the room (or on the screen).
4. Progress reviews We regularly review where you started, where you are, and what's next — so you can see the change, not just feel the effort.
I called my business Adapting Fitness because I believe exercise can be adapted for everyone. In practice, most of my 1:1 clients are:
Returning to strength after surgery or physio — discharged from treatment, but not yet back to the life you had. I bridge the gap between "signed off" and "back to strong". (Level 3 Exercise Referral Specialist)
Adults 40+ who want to stay strong, mobile and independent — training that respects your body's history while still challenging it
People managing long-term conditions — I've worked with clients with MS, spinal issues and more, adapting every session to what their body allows that day
Complete beginners who feel gyms aren't "for them" — they are; you just haven't had the right introduction yet
I don't sell training sessions — I deliver an outcome.
Over 12 weeks, we take you from where you are now to strong, capable and confident, one-to-one.
What's included:
Full movement assessment and goal mapping
1:1 coached sessions — your home, Active Life, or online
A personalised plan for the days between sessions
Message support throughout — you're never left guessing
Progress reviews at weeks 4, 8 and 12, so you see the change
Once weekly (12 sessions): £840
or
Twice-weekly(24 sessions): £1500
Same programme, faster progress — twice-weekly clients get a small per-session saving.
After your 12 weeks: continue 1:1, or step down to Hybrid Coaching and keep the momentum with a monthly session.
Sessions can be at Active Life Leisure Club, in your home or online.
Not in budget right now? Online Coaching gives you my programming and oversight from £140/month

Progressive strength programming
Mobility & stability work
Accountability & progression tracking
Optional sports massage integration
"Adapting Fitness (and Chris) is just that - adapting. I have MS and quite disabled by it, but Chris always comes up with ingenious ways to work my recalcitrant body! I have worked with him weekly for around 6 months now. I am showing some small improvements in strength, which is helping with my daily living. I am never going to be running marathons or deadlifting large weights, but keeping active is hugely important to me. And Chris very much helps with that" JB
"I have had 12 weekly gym based personal training sessions with Chris to increase my strength, balance and flexibility following joint replacement. Chris focuses on correct technique and demonstrates a range of exercises using resistance equipment where appropriate. He takes a whole body approach, then moves to target specific muscle groups where weakness is identified. I saw improvements within a few weeks in all the aspects I was looking for. Chris is knowledgeable, calm and pleasant to work with and instills confidence. It has been an enjoyable personalised regime and I highly recommend him." JC
How is this different from Online Coaching?
With 1:1 Personal Training, I'm with you live for every session — coaching, correcting and adapting in real time, it can get confusing in that as well as in-person being you and I at the gym or in your home, it can also be an online Zoom meeting type session.
With Online Coaching, you follow a personalised programme in your own time and my input comes through check-ins and messages. If you want hands-on guidance every rep, this page is for you. If you're self-motivated and want expert direction without paying for session time, look at Online Coaching →
Do you do one-off sessions?
No — training starts with a block of 12.
One session won't change your body; twelve weeks of consistent, coached training can. If you're unsure about committing, that's exactly what the free discovery call is for.
I don't work with anyone without a consultation first.
This is typically 1-1.5 hours long. I don't charge for this so one session means you've had up to 2.5 hours of my time for the consultation and the session PLUS I need to develop a suitable programme for you - so nearer 4 hours of my time for only the price of one hour. That makes no business sense.
I've had surgery/ just finished physio. Can I train?
Very likely yes — this is one of my specialisms. I work with post-surgical and post-physio clients regularly, and where useful I'll align your training with what your physio advised. Tell me about it on the call. However depending how major the surgery was your consultant or physio will have given you a guide e.g In the first 4 weeks you can only do this, in the next 4 weeks you can add in this and this.... Feel free to speak to your consultant/physio for their medical opinion.
I'm really unfit / nervous / have never set foot in a gym.
Perfect — you're exactly who "adapting fitness" was named for. We start from where you are, not where a programme thinks you should be. And if a gym feels intimidating, we can start at your home if you're close enough.
Whilst we are working together you will gain the confidence to know not only how to perform exercises correctly, but why you are doing each one, safe alternatives for you, etc.
Will my house be big enough to train in?
Almost certainly. You need about the space of a yoga mat — six foot by two - and room overhead/to the sides so you don't bang into anything. We can also train outdoors as an option.
Can I mix venues?
Yes.
Some clients do the gym one week and home the next; others switch to online-live when travelling. It's one service — where we do it is up to you.
Which areas do you cover for home visits?
Roughly 30 miles around Northallerton: Catterick, Richmond, Bedale, Leyburn, Masham and surrounding villages. Further afield may be possible with travel time factored in — just ask.
What if I want fewer live sessions over time?
That's a natural progression. Many clients step down to Hybrid Coaching →
— your own programme plus a monthly live session — once they're confident training alone. Nothing is locked in.
