"I could hardly walk, I was in so much pain with a bad back. Painkillers weren't helping so I thought I'd try a massage. Chris had been recommended. At the end of the first session I felt so much better! He didn't push me to book further sessions, just showed me stretches that would help. I booked one more session 'just in case', but my back hasn't played up like that in ages now - I get regular massage treatments and I think it really helps." C.K.
Do I need to be an athlete in order to get sports massage?
Not at all. It is beneficial for anyone - athletic or not.
Highly beneficial to those suffering chronic pain, muscular tension, stress, and recovering from injury.
Does it hurt?
It can be painful.
I always speak to my clients and suggest a pain scale of 1-10, and ask that if I am getting near an 8 out of 10 then they tell me, so I can modify what I am doing/ move away from that area for a while. It's a two way street, whilst I can feel what is going on with the muscles - I need your feedback on how it feels.
It can also lead to bruising.
This is not mandatory and shouldn't be seen as a badge of honour by the therapist.
It can be a side effect of sports massage as the intense pressure on deep muscles can cause minor damage to capillaries leading to bruising.
Do you offer home visits
Yes I do offer home visits. I have a portable massage table that I bring with me.
You can contact me to arrange a home visit but you can't just book one online as I need to factor in travel time, setting up, clearing down etc. So we need to discuss and find a mutually convenient time for home visits.
How often should I book?
Whilst in some cases I may suggest a few more sessions - that is optional. It is entirely up to you how often you want to book.
Some people feel good after one session and stop.
Some will come for regular massage before/after physical events.
Some only attend when injured and looking to aid recovery.
Quite a few people make it a regular part of their routine - whether that is for training, to hold off aches and pains ...or just because they like the relaxed feeling afterwards.
